I just wanted to, before I start anything to day tell you about a cool VR painting thing I found. It is only available for the HTC VIVE headset which is pretty expensive. only the development set is available, but assuming it comes with the development software it could be used for a large project someone can make. As I understand it though, it requires a relatively large open space to use/set up. Its probably pretty expensive, but it would be fun to make stuff with, both the painting thing and the game making possibilities.
